Weathering the Storm of Phantoms

The population of men lined

in the streets astonished me.

Poignant smells of sandalwood and spice

lingered over this stream of mixed

earth tone colors shouting,

“Fresh meat! Fresh meat!”

 

No one else was around, then I

realized they were referring to me

 

Serena Tome is a poet and humanitarian who enjoys writing about social justice, and personal heritage. In 2009, she launched an international reading series for African children to connect, learn, and participate in literary activity with students from around the world via video conferencing.
